Italy, with its wide variety of landscapes, is a distillation of the world. The Marche region can be said to be a distillation of Italy.

The hills of the Marche, winding inland, are like a huge natural Italian garden. They are not like the hills of Tuscany, Umbria or Veneto. They are gentle, calm, rounded.

When foreigners identify which region feels most typical of our Country, they tend to indicate Tuscany and Umbria. We believe this is only because the Marche region is generally outside their tour itineraries. This region is not known to most visitors to the extent it deserves based on its great natural and artistic beauty.

And yet the Marche are one of the regions of Italy richest in cultural assets: 500 town squares, over 1000 significant monuments, 37 strongholds, 106 castles, 15 fortresses and 170 towers, thousands of churches, of which 200 are Romanesque, 96 abbeys, 183 sanctuaries, 72 historic theatres all restored and in operation.

This makes the Marche a sort of living museum, comprising a rich network of art cities and historic towns laid out among the soft, green hills, and housing unique masterpieces by artists ranging from Piero della Francesca to Lorenzo Lotto, from Raphael to Carlo Crivelli, from P.P. Rubens to Titian, without counting the numerous historic theatres and old Roman roads, bearing witness to an illustrious past.
